Hello has any body have a way to check a water pump to see if its working ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not a mechanic / technician but what I do is with the engine warmed up , so

I know the engine cooling thermostat is open ( the top radiator hose is warm )

and without catching any clothing etcetera in the moving parts , I gently squeeze

the top radiator hose and than let it go slightly , if the water pump is working

I can feel a surge of engine coolant going through the hose

Maytag side by side has a new ice maker and a new water pump but the water is not getting to the ice maker what should you check next?

The water pipe from the pump to the ice maker is quite thin; check it to see that it is not plugged. Check to see that there is water also at the inlet to the water pump. If there is not, check that the pipe leading to the water pump is not plugged.

What is the function of foot valve in the pump?

A foot valve, in relation to a water well, is a check valve at he bottom of a well to keep the water from running back into the well from the pump when the pump is not running. If the check valve does not hold the water the pump will lose it's prime and will not pump water.

I have water leaking from around the water pump on your 95 astro does it have to be replaced or are there gaskets you need to check?

Check the water pump drive shaft. If water is leaking from the hole beneath the drive, it's definitely a bad water pump seal and you can't repair them.

How do you know when you need to replace water pump?

Check under car for water leaks. Check the pump make sure the seal is tight, listen to the pump while the car is running and see if you hear any noise from the pump. This could be a sign of broken blazes.Finially pull off the upper hose to the water pump start the engine and see if the pump is working. If it is, check the thermostat it may not be opening to let the water pass through.

1997 Ford Taurus V6 overheating?

first check to see if you are leaking coolant from anywhere see if your fans are working. then check the thermostat. then check your water pump most likely it will be the water pump because the stupid ford designers made the impellers in the pump plastic

Why would water be leaking from the engine of a Honda Civic?

check your water pump..it might be bad it could be your water pump, or it might be a leak in your radiator. check those first. If the water is green or orange, it is probably coolant, check water pump seal, radiator, radiator hoses, and maybe the heater core. If the water is clear and comes out when the A/C is on, it's condensation from the air conditioning. A/C condensation is perfectly normal.

What does the check valve do in the sump pump?

It keeps the water that is pumped out from flowing back into the sump when the pump shuts off. Most sumps discharge several feet above the hole the pump sits in. If there was not a check valve the sump would just refill and pump out the water over and over.
