Second if needed you may have to remove the hoses running from the radiator so that you have full view and access to your throttle body. Open you butterfly throttle and spray throttle body cleaner on a rag and wipe until clean. then locate your iac valve. once you have remove it and use the same throttle body cleaner to wipe the carbon and smut off of the point. Then clean the housing in which it goes back into. Be sure to carefully insert your iac valve and tighten as needed. Once you have done that if the iac valve is working then it will be fine for a period of time. If your car still has trouble idling then you may have to replace it. Replacing the iac valve allows the correct amount of air and fuel in to start the engine and keep it idling correctly.

The location of the IAC valve depends on the kind of fuel injection system you have. On the Vortec V6 (93+) it's right on top of the air intake in front of the throttle valve. If you follow the air intake tube to the motor, the IAC valve will be in the intake manifold right where the air tube meets the manifold. The wiring for the IAC valve comes around behind the throttle cable bracket and plugs into the IAC valve.
1. Take the electrical connector off the IAC valve. 2. Take the 2 bolts loose holding it onto the throttle body. 3. Take care not to damage the gasket. 4. Lift it off and spray the inside of the IAC with carburetor cleaner. 5. Oil the pintle with some 3 in 1 oil. 6. Replace the IAC. 7. Sometimes it will take a period of holding the throttle down to keep the engine running after you clean the IAC. After a few moments it will run fine.
