With a caliper rewind tool.
It is a key that fits into the notches or grooves on the caliper piston. Mine is about an inch cube with different configurations for model/car/year and works with a 3/8" drive ratchet. Can't recall for certain, but I believe you press and turn counter-clockwise.
Yes.
Do not try to compress you will damage the caliper! You need to get a caliper tool and twist them in. look for caliper tool at Harbor Freight http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=40732 Caution both sides turn in opposite directions. Passenger side turns clockwise. Driver side turns counter clockwise.
Torque specs for brake caliper bolts 2005 mazda 6
with a c clamp. put a block of wood or your old pad over the piston and tighten with clamp.
Remove tire, remove two bolts holding brake caliper to rotor. Remove caliper with brake hose attached (set on top of rotor or hang with wire to relieve pressure off of brake hose). Slide brake pads off (you may have to gently tap on pads to remove them) and then put new ones on. Compress piston in caliper to make room for new pads with a clamp. Install caliper, install tire.
A ratchet with socket to remove brake caliper bolts, large C clamp to compress the caliper piston to aid removal and installation of brake pads, bungee cord or other means to support caliper after its removal ( don't let it hang by the brake line) Can of brake cleaner if you want to clean the brake system..... wear a mouth and nose dust mask to prevent inhalation of brake dust... Torque wrench set at 100 lbs to properly torque wheel lug nuts
How do you compress the rear break caliper, pistons on a 2002 Sierra ?
I don't know if there is a better way but I have always just removed the brake fluid cap and used pliers (very gently so not score the caliper) and push it back in. Make sure not to contaminate the brake fluid when removing the cap and make sure to replace the cap when done. This eliminates the need to bleed the brakes.
you use a c clamp that's how i do it on all the the vehicle's that i work on if this help's you
# Raise and support vehicle. # Remove the wheel and tire assemblies. # Compress the caliper # Remove the caliper slide pin bolts NOTE: Do not allow brake hose to support caliper assembly. # Remove the caliper by tilting the top up and off the caliper adapter # Support and hang the caliper. # Remove the inboard brake pad (1) from the caliper # Remove the outboard brake pad (2) from the caliper # Place an old brake shoe between a C-clamp and caliper piston. Bottom piston in the caliper bore with C-clamp. # Clean caliper mounting adapter and anti-rattle spring guide # Lubricate anti-rattle spring guides with Mopar brake grease. # Install anti-rattle spring guides NOTE:Anti-rattle spring guides are not interchangeable. # Install inboard brake pad to the caliper # Install outboard brake pad to the caliper # Tilt the top of the caliper over rotor and under adapter. Then push the bottom of the caliper down onto the adapter # Install caliper to the rotor and then install the caliper slide pin bolts, Install wheel and tire assemblies and lower vehicle, # Apply brakes several times to seat caliper pistons and brake shoes and obtain firm pedal. # Top off master cylinder fluid level.
I believe that caliper is held with 10mm bolts. Remove caliper, then caliper mounting frame, then rotor will come off.
Lift the car, remove the tire, remove the brake caliper, and remove the old brake pads. Put in the new brake pads, replace the brake caliper, replace the tire and lower the car.?æ
