There are two ways that you can do this:
1.From the ECU Cable, that's on the GMC, looking from the bottom of the wire harness clip, the 4th wire from the left bottom series of wires for negative, and the positive on the 2nd wire from the right hand side top series of wires.
2. attach wires from the tach from the negative side of the main branch of the coil pack positive wire, and negative to the negative wire.
Then after that's done it should work, depending if you need a power supply from battery or turn-key acc on wire.
on my tach, the green wire connects to the neg on the ign coil pack
Connect the green wire to the negative side of the coil.
the green is the signal wire and it goes to the negative side of the ignition coil
underneath the plastic cover on the engine head are the spark plug wires, there are 2 coil packs there. the wires connect the coil packs. 2 of the spark plugs are under the coil packs and the other 2 are exposed...
You will need to connect the tach to a ground and +12v source, the signal wire will have to be connected to the ground on the coil. Since the truck is fuel injected, you will likely have to find a way to wire it in with the connector on the coil. Kyrasis6 Mazdatruckin.com
follow the spark plug wires to the front of the engine where they connect to the coil packs, remove the coil packs by removing the screws on top and on bottom of each and the I.C.M. is the plate that comes off with the coil packs. the screws should be a 5.5 or 6 m.m.
One white goes to the negative side of the coil and the other to ground.
four coil packs
I would say connect it to your coil pack or distributor lead if it has one. I am, however, old school.
( 1 ) that all 6 spark plug wires connect to coil---3---4 pack--2---6 plug---1---5
To install a tachometer first determine where the tachometer will be mounted on the dash column. Then, use a flathead screwdriver to tighten the clamp around the column of the tachometer mount. Next, put the two red "trigger" wires through the firewall and connect the other ends to the coil wires of the distributor. Wrap the tachometer wire around the ignition coil bolts. The remaining two wires must be wired into the ignition of the car. Insert them into the power terminal of the fuse box which permits the tachometer to operate when the engine is on.
A bad ignition coil can cause your 1987 Acura tachometer to quit working. A bad tachometer cable or ground wire can also cause it to quit working.
