How do you correct a pulsing idle on a 1996 Dodge Ram 318?
It may be a stuck pcv valve.
I had the same problem with a 1996 Dodge Avenger 4-cylinder manual transmission and found out that is was the Idle Air Control Motor is located right underneath the Throttle position sensor. It will run as long as a revved the engine but as soon as I would let go of the gas pedal it would not idle and it would shut-off.
This engine will be fuel injected. This means that if the engine will not idle at the correct speed there is something wrong with the fuel injection system. The most common problem leading to a high idle is a vacuum leak. The second most common problem is a bad or fouled spark plug If neither of these is the problem a scan with a correct tool may tell what component has failed .
Why is 1996 Dodge Intrepid jerking while in idle and also while in motion and starts to lose its acceleration power once its at higher speeds?
In the event of the lights being left on and the battery dying, the computer "forgets" where to idle. The solution is to hold the gas down while starting the truck and ease off over the period of thirty to sixty seconds. Otherwise a faulty idle air control motor, a throttle position sensor, or clogged fuel filter could cause it to not idle.
