A wye delta timer is used to change the wye connection to the delta connection. The timer should have enough of a setting to allow the wye motor speed to get up to full RPM on that winding. It then times out and changes to the delta run winding.

Check the voltage on the "hot" terminal of the timer to make sure that you have control voltage to that point. If the delta magnetic does not pull in check for voltage on the mags coil. If the voltage is present, then the mags coil is under suspicion.

Do a continuity test on the coil. When the timer times out the control voltage should appear on the other side of the timers contact.

If the timer has a "C form" contact make sure that the coil wire in on the correct screw. The "hot" control wire to common terminal and coil wire to the N.O. terminal.

What is wye-delta motor control?

It is a type of starter that allows a motor to be started across the line by starting the motor with a reduced inrush current. The motor is started in a wye configuration until it gets up to speed and then a timer drops the wye contactor out a draws the delta configured contactor in. The motor then operates in a delta wired configuration.

What connection is the higher ampere between delta and wye?

For the same load, delta provides higher current than wye, or star.Wye voltage is 1 / 1.732, or 0.577 that of delta. (1.732 is the square root of 3.) This gives a power of 0.333 for wye, as opposed to delta. (0.5772 = 0.333)This is why (no pun intended) we use wye-delta starters on large motors - it allows them to come up to speed at 1/3 power, before switching to full power on delta.

What is phase shift in three phase transformer?

The phase shift in three-phase transformer from winding of Transformer and determine by vectorgroup of transformer such as YNd1 High voltage connect to wye Low Voltage connect to delta so L.V. lag H.V 30 degree.Answer'Phase shift' or, more accurately, 'angular displacement', is the angle between the secondary line voltages and primary line voltages of a three-phase transformer.

How can you terminate a 3 wire wye motor to a 3 phase delta connection?

To terminate a 3 wire wye motor to a 3 phase delta connection you need a 3 phase transformer to convert from delta to wye. Do not lift the common neutral connections inside the motor and rewire for delta, because the voltages will be wrong.

Is a step up transformer a Ynd or a Dyn?

Whether a transformer is 'step up' or 'step down' has nothing to do with the way its windings are connected, so it could be wye-delta or delta-wye.

Should a star-delta motor be supplied wye or delta power?

A star-delta motor should be supplied star-delta.Wye is simply another name for star. Star-delta motors use a star or wye configuration to start, and a delta configuration to run. This reduces the voltage on the windings during the high current starting time.

What is the difference between an open delta and an open wye connection?

An open delta connection is a delta connection with one phase removed, but still supplied with three line conductors. An open wye is a wye connection with one phase removed, supplying a three line conductors and a neutral conductor. An open-delta/open-wye is a method of providing a reduced-load three-phase supply using just two single-phase transformers, rather than the preferred method of using three single-phase transformers.

Application of Y-delta transformations?

delta-wye is a common type of 3-phase transformer configuration. It offers a good voltage gain and the delta transformer is useful in unstable systems for removing the third harmonics. The transformation is necessary for analyzing the circuit.

How much voltage does star-Delta starter give to motor at start?

A delta starter supplies what ever the supplied voltage to the line side of the contactor is. The inrush current is usually 300% of the full load amperage of the motor. Edit to above answer: Actually the question is for a Wye-Delta Starter (Wye=Star). There are two contactors, one in Wye configuration and one with Delta. The Wye is used to start and the Delta for run. This is a reduced voltage start scheme. Though the line supply voltage remains the same, for instance 480VAC, the phase voltage at the motor will be different for the Wye: V(phase) = V(line)/1.732 In a Delta V(phase) = V(line) So the Phase Voltage during the start will be 277VAC and then when the motor is spinning, usually after a set time delay, the Wye contactor drops out and the Delta contactor kicks in so that Phase Voltage is now the full 480VAC.

What kind of 3 phase dry type tranform is used when you are using 110V loads to balance the three phases of that transform?

It would normally be a "Delta" "Wye" transformer. Delta on the high-voltage side, and Wye on the low-voltage side. The Wye windings will give you the neutral needed for 110 v. circuits
