What is the explanation for the term 'Throw of the hinge'?

The throw of the hinge determines how the hinge opens by where the hinge is set; it is the distance from the outside edge of the hinge to its placement point on the door and jamb. A widethrow hinge sets the pintel or pivot point away from the door to allow it to open up to 180°. Wide jambs usually require a wide throw hinge to allow the door to move unobstructed.

How do you adjust a door on a 2002 s10 pickup not the hinge?

Usually a new set of hinge pins and bushings bring the door back to alignment. If something got bent you basically have to re-bend it. I've seen it done with blocks of wood and a floor jack.

How do you keep an interior door from closing by itself in a house?

The very easiest way is this: # Remove the middle hinge pin. (bottom hinge pin if you only have two hinges) # Set it on a concrete sidewalk, driveway etc. laying flat. # Hit it with a hammer in the middle. This will bend the pin slightly, causing friction in the hinge and, once put back in the hinge, it should hold the door in any position you open it to.

How do you Replace door threshold gasket?

To replace a door threshold gasket you have to place a pair of sawhorses outside and make sure they are set up so that the door can be laid flat on top of them. Take a screwdriver and insert it into the bottom of the pin on one of the hinges. Use your hammer to pound on the top of the screwdriver to force the hinge pin upwards and out of the hinge. Repeat this process for the rest of the hinges. It is important to keep the door closed while removing the hinge pins so that the door or floor is not damaged. Open the door slowly and pick and slide it over the side to remove it from the hinges. Set the door on the sawhorses. Inspect the threshold seal on the bottom of the door. Remove the strip by removing the screws on the bottom of the door and sliding the threshold seal out of the channel that holds it. Slide the new threshold seal into the channel and re-insert the screws to lock it into position. Remove the door from the sawhorses and take it back into the house. Set the door back onto the hinges, inserting it in the closed position. Re-insert the door hinge pins using a hammer to pound them all the way back into place. Open and close the door to see how the seal affects the operation of the door.

How do you change the passenger side door on a 1996 ford explorer?

You first need to pull the electrical connections out from the door. You access them by taking off the interior panel from the door. Then undo the connectors. I would tag them some how just incase to ease in the installation. They need to come out back through the wire loom that goes in between the door and the body. The door will be heavy. Have a person on hand to help. To remove it all you do is remove the hinge bolts. There will be two for top hinge and two for the bottom hinge. Either remove the bolts from the door side or the body side. Whichever set is easier. It should be off. Then just change it out and re run the wire. Hope this helps. Good luck.

If its the code for the keyless remote entry, the buttons on the drivers door, The factory set code can usually be found on the right arm of the trunk hinge. Even it the code is changed, the code set at the factory (default) can still be used to unlock the door.

You installed 3 double action hinges on your new door Now your door wont close in the center of the Jam What did you do wrong?

Try removing the center hinge. See if the door closes. If so the hinges need to be set into the jam or the door deeper. Adjust and re-install them. Check to see if your door has a bevel, is the bevel backwards? GL.

How do you replace the gas tank cover on a Volvo wagon?

Buy a new plastic hinge Volvo part number 31265160. To replace the hinge, push the two center pins through using a punch. This will free up the broken hinge and you can remove it. Attach the new hinge to the door, then set the grommets into the openings and push the pins in to retain the grommet. BE CAREFUL NOT TO PUSH THE PINS TOO FAR. All they need to be is flush with the grommet.

How do you set the tension on a spring hinge?

It depends on the type. Some are set and cannot be changed, some are wound up and held with a pin that goes through the hinge to hold the spring.

How do you replace the hinge bushings on a Chevy Blazer?

First get new hinge pin, retainer, and set of bushings. Dorman part #38419 for an S-10 front hinge pin. Any good parts store should have it or go online to Autoparts Warehouse. Just type in # and it comes up. One kit is under $20 dollars. By 2 kits for top and bottom hinge on one door. Use a floor jack and wood 2x4 to support the bottom of the door. My spring was missing so I'll skip that part of it, however I know that there is a tool available from harbor frieght or at Home Depot. You can also use a small prybar to remove it. I used some left over 3/4" foam pipe insulation and placed it on the forward edge of my driver's side door and the rear edge of my front fender so as to not mar the door edge and fender finish. I also used some short pieces of 1/2" pine to hold door away from body just in case. I did this working by myself. After getting the spring out pry off the upper retainer on the upper hinge pin. Using a small diameter punch, tap the upper pin downward untill it falls out. Do the same for the lower hinge only you tap it up to come out. Once both hinge pins are out the door is now free. I was able to move the door out and over just enough to knock out the old worm bushings and place the new brass bushings in place. Take the smaller outer diameter bushing and working on the top hinge by hand to set it, now gently tap the brass bushing down into the body side top hinge hole until fully set. Do the same for the lower bushing and lower pin hole only that larger diameter bushing goes in from the bottom of the hinge. Repeat the process if you are changing the lower pin, only both those bushings go in from the top of the hinge. Gently moving the door back in place, re-alining the door side of the hinges so you can see through the hinge and bushings holes. Place the pins in the holes, top pin goes in from the bottom and lower hinge goes in from the top. Gently tap or twist and turn pins into place. The pins are thicker at their heads so now you will have to give both pins a good whack with a hammer until they are fully seated. Re-install the spring (if you still have your's) and lube both pins with white grease. It took me about an hour taking my time, to do my upper hinge pin. Mainly because I did't want to remove the door and I was working by myself. My upper hinge had the elongated hole from ware, but it wasn't too bad. Also keep in mind that I only moved the door out from the body side of the hinge about 3/8" or a 1/2" which was just enough space to sneak in the new bushings. Take your time and be very gentle with the door movement. Also be carefull when putting in the bushings as those are soft brass. Good luck, hope this helps

Need to fix the driver side door latch on a mercury cougar?

You didn't explain much of what was wrong, but with my cougar I thought it was the latch, but it was actually having to replace the bushings in the door hinge. It used to be that you could just by the bushings kit, but now you have to by the whole set up.
