Probably the rod that goes from the lock to the handle got seperated. It'll be hard but take the panel off and play around. A flashlight and mirror will help. It'll take a while but it'd be worth it. Stick you hand up in there and try to feel around for any loose rods or anything else for that matter. If you feel something that just seems to 'dangle' that's probably the source. Nothing in there should have that much 'play'. Otherwise it wouldn't be there. I'd rattle too much.
