If the glove box will not stay shut, look at the lock mechanism, the hinge and the latch. If either of these is bent, broken or loose, replace it. These are the most common causes.
The most likely culprit is grime and road salt in the wiper blade hinge. Pull the blade away from the window and push it toward the window and back several times to loosen the debris in the hinge mechanism. You will likely see a bunch of particles fall out of the hinge as you do this. A mechanic at the Buick dealership told me this is common with these SUVs.

To repair a broken door hinge on a 1991 Cherokee Briarwood, a new piece of metal should be welded in to hold the hinge. Then, a new hinge should also be welded in that is aligned with the door pin.

Open the glove box. Remove all contents from glove box. Now, slightly close it, and with your right hand, pull the right side hinge side away from the dash. The glove box should flop completely open now, exposing the cab filter cover. Remove and replace. Simply closing the glove box will reset the hinge.
