Common issue, which many people overlook, is rocks, its not uncommon for tiny rocks or debris to get stuck in the sunroof mechanism causing it to not close, someone at a Mercedes stealership reportedly did this to someone's car just so they could charge them $6000 for a complete overhaul (BOTTOM LINE: don't get ripped off go to several places for a diagnostic!!)

Hey G==To properly fix a sumroof and keep it from leaking is an art in itself... Take it to the auto trim shop. GoodluckJoe

I was a VW tech in 96 and I replaced many. You have to replace the whole frame with the drive mechanism the parts that broke were not available. It will have to come from VW and was pricey. Remove sunroof motor This will enable you to move the tracks manually. With the glass in vent position you remove 4 Allen head bolts to release the glass. Then remove headliner and pillar plastic trim . remove nuts to release frame take plastic drain tubes loose. Then reverse. To much trouble or expense You can remove motor you should be able to put in close position replace motor and leave unpluged.

How do you fix a leaking sunroof on a 1995 Mazda MX3?

The first thing I would do is check the weather stripping around the sunroof. Replace it if necessary. If that doesn't work, check the glass for cracks and have it replaced, if necessary.

How do you fix the sunroof on a 1997 Mustang if it opened and now the switch makes clicking noises but the sunroof will not close?

You will have to remove the sunroof motor, and the sunroof glass. Then you can move the guide tracks seperately until they are in the closed position. Then you can put the glass and motor back in, remove the power source (fuse or disconnect wire harness) to prevent any accidental opening until you can get it fixed. Chances are that a guide track or cable is broken, this can be a costly fix. Do not take it to the dealership, they will only want to install a whole sunroof unit. Take it to a local shop that installs aftermarket sunroofs.
