You need some jegs heads with a torker 2 intake and a 600 or a 650 holley and some cheap jegs headers with hooker maxflow muffles with a 3 inch exhaust system. Get a hydraulic cam preferably a lunati braket master 1 cam # 00012 or # 00012lk which is the cam and lifter kit. And use some roller rockers.
If you want more low end torque go with a roller cam
Since you'll have much bigger than stock combustion chambers then stock you'll have really low compression which means you can crank the advance on the timing way up. Also add an MSD system to the car and swap the springs and bushing in the distributor to make all the advance kicks in right away.
Since you'll be throwing this thing out to 6500 rpm id suggest a rebuild with at a minimum of hyperutetic pistons if not forged since you're going all out. some high quality rods and maybe a replacement crank if yours has a lot of miles on it or is in harsh condition.
Get an electric fan kit and a fat radiator to help keep that thing running cool and your in business.
If you want to really get things started just put a whipple w305 supercharger on anything with its intercooler plate and it will make retarded power. It pumps more air than a race class BDS 1471 supercharger and has less drag and is 95% efficient. its the ultamite supercharger.
The Chevrolet small block 400 will bolt in place of the 305 but be sure to use a 400 flywheel or flex plate. Do not use the 305 flywheel or flex plate on the 400.
yes a350 trans and 400 use the same bellhousing
Adjust carb on 400 Polaris 4x4 2stroke
1/2 tons used the350 turbo. The 3/4 tons used the 400 turbo
A 400 will bolt up to either a 305 or a v6. Whichever you prefer.
The timing mark on all 305 to 400 small block Chevrolet engines from 73 to 87 is on the hamonic balancer which is the pulley behind the crankshaft and has no belt grooves...smooth with a split line on it....that line is the timing mark.
I believe it is about the same as a 305 / 350. 600 lbs. I recently swapped a 400 into a trans am with a 305 and the car weighed the same at the track.
It takes a lot to beef up a 305 but they are capable of making almost 400+hp
Yes, the Turbo 400 will bolt up to the 305. Use the original Turbo 400 torque converter and flex plate unless the 305 flex plate has dual bolt pattern to except the 400 converter.
250 ci 105 HP, 305 ci 140 HP, 350 ci 145 HP, 350 ci 165 HP, 400 ci 175 HP.
It won't change anything.
