Open the hood and loosen the gray plastic wing nut on the inside top corner of the headlight.
When a turn signal is flashing faster, it generally indicates that one of the turnsignal bulbs are burnt out. Either the front or rear on the same side. Replacing the burnt out bulb should correct the issue. If both sides are flashing either too fast or two slow, then the flasher module is defective. (Or multiple bulbs are burned out, read above) The flasher can be replaced with a new one that should cost under $5-10 and is available at any auto parts store.
AnswerTo fix it do this : say the drivers side blinker goes on and does not flash. Well then you have either the front or rear blinker burned out. Thx KBThere's the possibility of burned bulbs, but if both sides fail to blink, replace the flasher unit.
most people do not think to check the polarity when changing the blinkers, try rotating the flasher bulbs that you changed, do one at a time until you see a difference in speed from the flashers. ---------------- Also check that ALL of the flashers are working - including the "side markers" on the front side AND the parking light bulbs in the very front. ALL of these have to be working for the lights to flash at the proper speed. I would also check the "brightness" of the bulbs between the two sides. If one side looks dim, then that would point to a wiring issue. Good Luck, Greg
be sure you are getting current on both sides of your turn signal switch when you turn on the blinker. This could be the problem.
IF IT HAPPENS ON BOTH SIDES THEN THIS IS CAUSED BY THE FLASHER UNIT, IF IT ONLY HAPPENS ON ONE SIDE THEN YOU HAVE A BAD EARTH CONNECTION ON ONE OF THE BULBS.
The side lights are sided, eg. the left front and the left rear are on one circuit the other on another. If both r bulbs are blown. Hope this helps.
If both sides are out as well as the hazard lights then the flasher relay is suspect.
1986 CHEVY CELEBRITY, THE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER IS USUALLY PLUGGED DIRECTLY INTO THE FUSE PANEL UNDER THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASH BOARD. THERE MAY ALSO BE ONE OR TWO SMALL SQUARE RELAYS PLUGGED IN THE PANEL . THE ORIGINAL FLASHER IS BRIGHT ALUMINUM AND IS ROUND. YOU SHOULD ALSO KNOW THAT THE FLASHER SYSTEM IS DESIGNED SO THAT IF A LIGHT GOES OUT, THE OTHER LIGHTS ON THAT SIDE WILL COME ON, BUT NOT FLASH, THIS IS TO LET YOU KNOW THAT A LIGHT IS INDEED OUT. IF A BULB IS BLOWN ON BOTH SIDES, THEN NEITHER SIDE WILL FLASH, THIS MEANS THE FLASHER IS'NT ALWAYS BAD.FIND THE BAD BULBS FIRST, THEN WORRY ABOUT THE FLASHER. HAPPY MOTORING
On one side only? The bulb at the rear is blown... Both sides? Both bulbs at the rear are blown, or perhaps a wiring fault?
It is located on top of the steering column under the cover. You have to take the dashboard cover off starting at the sides and down the front and take off the steering column cover. it plugs in from the back.
Check / replace the flaher relay I have never heard of a flasher relay---If one side flashes but not the other it is not the flasher (one flasher is used for both sides) most likelya bulb is burned out
FRONT SEATING AREA, DRIVER SIDE, UNDER DASH, MOUNTED ON PASSENGER SIDE OF STEERING COLUMN. First, check the fuse for your turn signals, and the bulbs. If these are ok, then remove the ashtray drawer(remove 4 screws with a 9/32 socket or nut driver. You will see the flasher to the left of the opening. I found that I also had to remove the cover below the dash (6 screws). This allowed me to work with both hands from both sides of the flasher. It is held down by a 2-pronged metal holder, and is easily popped out. You may need a small straight screwdriver to pry the flasher off it's two prongs. Pop the replacement on the two prongs, and insert the flasher back onto it's metal holder. This is difficult to do because of surrounding wires and other electrical items.Replace the under dashboard cover and ashtray drawer.
