My goodness don't scare them away! Consider yourself fortunate that they have chosen your spot to raise their families. Go out on a daily basis and get to know your new neighbors; don't forget to bring a welcome gift of fresh whole wheat bread for them when you visit. You have a rare opportunity to get to know another species and form a relationship that will last for years. If you play your cards right they will return every year and become members of your extended family.

Canada Geese are wise animals and you can learn alot from them: from how to deal with daily stress to, yes, how to better discipline your children.

Enjoy your new friends!

Canada geese have in the last few decades become non migratory in many areas, choosing to rather stay put and raise their young, and have become a nuisance in many areas. As a migratory waterfowl species, they are protected by laws that outlaw hunting them except during set seasons. A few around usually causes few problems, but a large flock can be very detrimental to areas where there is a small water source and many homes or businesses. Goose droppings are a problem when large groups of these birds congregate, and the birds themselves can cause problems such as wandering into traffic. Some people use firecrackers to scare them away, and others use dogs such as labs to frighten them off. Please do not use these tactics however when they have young that cannot fly, wait til the babies are able to fly with their parents.

At large bodies of water they tend to be less of a problem, and can add to the wild beauty of the lakes and rivers. They are wild birds, and feeding them can make them dependent on you, plus it is against the law in most areas to do so for that very reason.

There are companies that will help you in your efforts to relocate your geese in a way as to not harm them in any way, and it would be better for the geese too, to live wild as they were intended rather than become semi domesticated.

Do geese eat anything other than grass?

geese do NOT eat algae for god's sake algae is POISONOUS!! to fowl!! YUCK!!!!!!!!!!! Geese will mainly eat grass as the most part of their diet But they should be given some amount of a corn/barley/wheat mix with that and lots of Greens My geese have rolled barley and they LOVE it . . and have that every morning and fresh greens given every few days of course they will eat MORE in the winter when grass stops growing . . My geese LOVE cabbages and swedes the most =) and they occasionally get a bit of bread (about once a week) no more then that because bread had no nutritional content what so ever and just fills them up and is full of carbohydrates. . geese actually also eat small rodents, slugs . . etc

Canada geese migrate to find food. In Canada, when the grass is frozen over, the geese fly elsewhere. They fly in a V shape so every geese can get to their destination safely.
