I had the same problem on my spirit , try using some penatrating spray on the shift linkage which is located on top of the tranny, It worked for me and it shifts great now
Dodge Caravan 1999 2.4 31TH 3 speed
Stuck in 1st gear
The transmission doesn't work take it to get fix
There are multiple things that could cause this problem, but if everything else seems to work fine, a good place to check would be the transmission and the shifter. Gears in the transmission could be blown and may not catch when you try to shift.
transmission out badllllllllllllllly!!!!! GET IT FIX A.S.A.P
Have the transmission fluid and filter changed. That most likely won't help but after you've changed the fluid you can put in a can of transmission seal conditioner, such as Trans-X or whatever brand is recommended. Trans-X is a little harder to find but it seems to have a good reputation. But be aware that a seal conditioner will only give you a few extra months service and the transmission is failing.
Our 2006 Odyssey Touring was just diagnosed from the dealer with this problem. We noticed a hum or vibration that we thought was in the transmission at first because it seemed to be worse between gears. It seems to be a little more noticeable at higher speeds...which makes sense now.
Engine revs higher on hills and on sudden bursts of accelaration, seems to rev higher before changing up, Will not back up on hills.
I'd check the transmission fluid level first and then for a slipping band inside the transmission.
Check the level and condition of the transmission fluid. It should be red light cough syrup. Perhaps the transmission cable is damaged. If the fluid looks fine, and the cable seems tensioned, you're probably talking about transmission failure.
The transmission computer has detected a malfunction and switched to limp in mode. You need to have it checked for codes to see if you have an electrical or mechanical problem.
You can tell if the transmission is bad on almost any car by looking for jerky acceleration when driving, especially when moving from low to higher speeds. If the car is jerky, or seems to be having trouble shifting, it is likely a problem with the transmission.
Depends on where it is coming from. If it seems outside of the vehicle, it could be a hub bearing.
It can make the engine run so poorly that it seems like the transmission has problems. It can make the engine run so poorly that it seems like the transmission has problems.
