You won't be able to, it's quite natural for them to do so in order to get hairballs out of their stomach. Although there doesn't necessarily need to be any hairball in the throwup. Same for owls, they need to throw up to get rid of bones and hair and stuff.
What we did to get our cat to stop is when ever she does it we take her out side in a cage and tell her not to do it now she very rarely dose it. now she will stand at the door to go to the cage and goes to the bathroom and she vomits. (it realy works u should try it)
I doubt that very much. Cats are very good at barfing up food that is bad for them.
