I think that Cadillac has built in 3 or 4 different features that will not allow your car to overheat.Including shutting it down. I am 2000 miles from my car so I can't look but I think that the thermostat is 195 degree and the radiator cap is 12 or 13 lbs (look at it.it is stamped) for every pound on the cap it raises the boiling point by 2 degrees. Atmospheric boiling point of water is 212 degrees 12 lb cap would raise it 24 degrees, thus 236 degree boiling point. Call your local parts store and ask what is the proper size(degree) for the thermostat and what is the proper lb. for the radiator cap. If still not sure have a professional check it out. Radiator caps do go bad, they should be pressure tested along with the radiator.
