I find that by going to www.crutchfield.com they have a lot of advice. I just installed a car stereo in my 1993 courgar and you need a special factory radio removal tool that has 4 prongs that will remove the radio. Then, you need to install the new radio as per directions. Additional mounting brackets may be needed.
buy a wire harrnes install kit they will have collored wires that will match the line up of your aftermarket car stereo. and then you don't have to cut any of the factury wires. if you go to sell the car you can put the facutery stereo back in

There is no way to fix a catalytic converter for a 1987 Mercury Cougar, since it is a sealed and unrepairable item. Once it goes bad, you must jack up the car, unbolt the old converter, then put a new one in its place and bolt it in.
