How do you install an after market CD changer on a 2000 Camry?

I am a BIG fan of Crutchfield Electronics. I do not have any interest in their business and have been a customer singe pre-internet days. If you purchase the CD Changer from them they will supply all instructions, adaptors, wire harness and face plates free. They will ask what year, make and model car you have and will know exactly what fits and what you need for the installation.

Enough of the advertisement. You need to get a wire harness that adapts the changer to the vehicle. Depending on the changer and the radio in the car, it may have a wire that connects to the antenna input or plugs into an accessory input on the radio. Or it may replace the entire radio.

On my Mom-in-laws Avalon, I went to a nearby used auto parts plot, obtained a factory radio with CD palyer built in and replaced her radio sans CD. The used auto parts place also took back the original radio for a portion of the purchase price. Not a multi-CD changer but a good CD player and fit in the car perfectly.

To access or replace the radio in the dash, the dash and face plate bezel should come off with removal of a few screws. Be careful of various clips that may also hold it to the dash and need to be gently popped apart after you remove all screws. This will expose the radio mounting bolts and allow you to easily remove the entire radio unit to do the work.
