This should be really simple, if you've already removed all of the bolts which hold the shifter in including the one behind the shifter hole in the trans, the shifter should slide right down into the transmission (provided the transmission was in neutral when you pulled the shifter)
install transmission shifter assembly
It is very difficult to install any sort of shifter in manual transmission vehicles and should be done by a pro.
The shifter cable connects the shifter to the transmission.

the pin is broke inside the shifter case. put it in neutral, if possible, and unbolt the 4 bolts holding the case in place. it should take a 12mm. once you remove the shifter, the little pin inside the shifter case should be wiggly. just replace it. i did it when i was 12
yes you can do this yourself by taking out the shifter and cutting it shorter with a saw. but then you will need to re-thread the shifter in order to screw a knob on. unless you have a knob that attaches itsself to the shifter with screws on the side. this is a ghetto way of doing it, but will work. or if you have $100-$200 to spend, simply buy a cimplete new short shifter off ebay, or anywhere and install it yourself which is a pretty simple job. take off the dash surrounding the shifter by popping it outwith a flat-head screw driver or your fingers. unattach the shift boot (the leather-like material surrounding the shifter. from here, you will be able to see the top of your transmission, where the shifter goes in. unscrew the plate on top of the transmission, and slide out the whole shifter. simply repeat this process in reverse to install your new aftermarket short shifter, making absolutely sure you are putting in the white plastic bushing at the end of the shifter that goes into the transmission, which ensures that it is secure and there is no play in the shifter.

The 1997 Chevy Blazer shifter cable will have swivel nuts on each end of the cable. Connect the shifter cable and turn the swivel nuts to the right to install the shifter cable.
Remove the shifter cable and switch from the drivers side of the transmission and the seal will be driven over the small shaft and into the transmission case. The shaft is the one that the shifter cable hooked to.
Gear shifter or manual transmission.
Tha transfer case has a shift sheet, not the transmission. The transmission has a bushing and shift bolt. The bushing is usually rotted and the bolt mos likely sheared in half. When you pull out the shift level, be careful not to let the broken bolt tip fall into the tranny.
