You don't! Some people hide behind computers because of exactly these reasons. We can't see each other; we don't know what each other looks like and if they should send a picture how do you know it's truly a picture of them? It's a pure guessing game and can be dangerous especially for women. There are perverts out there (even men going after young males and just not females). Obviously this person is making you nervous and putting doubts in your mind and it would be wise to think about this and decide if you want to continue online with them. You'd be taking a big risk. You could ask (if possible) to meet with them (SOMEWHERE PUBLIC) and NEVER be alone with especially a male if you are a male. I suggest you get off that computer chair, get out in the real world and start making friends and building on relationships the good old fashion way ... one of one and IN PERSON!

There isn't a way to know. That is one of the real dangers of the internet. Unless you can get independent validation through other means, you really don't know who you are talking to.
