put a little kerosene in each cylindar and let it set for a day them use a breaker bar on the crankshaft pully. How well it may run without an overhall is anybodys guess.
Soak it in Carburetor Cleaner for about 30 minutes to an hour and it will loosen up.
Possibly but it is better to use kerosene on a engine that has been sitting for a long period of time.
if the engine only runs when gas is poured into the carb it is generally caused by plugged jets and/or stuck needle in the seat. if it has been sitting for a length of time the fuel has either crystalized causing the plugging or the ethanol has caused a problem. if it is a new unit, briggs recommends tapping the carb lightly with a hammer to loosen the needle in its seat. for one reason or another the engine is not getting fuel through the carb
It can be a leaking injector that floods the engine when it isn't running. GoodluckJoe They asked about a problem that occurs AFTER it's been running a while...not after it's been sitting, with a pressurized Fuel line.
I have the same question but I'm 14 I'm a mechanic at our house. My truck is 1990 Chevy
If you mean why is an engine difficult to start after it has been sitting for a while, there are various reasons. There may be a carburetor problem or some other sort of gas line problem.
Throttle body injector may have varnish buildup that stops fuel from getting through. New answer; I don't know if the motor or the truck has been sitting. Need to check exhaust manifolds on engine to be sure mice havent built a nest in them and stoped the exhaust up on either side of the engine. Mud dobbers will pack mud in every opening in the engine, and stop it up. Check exhaust pipes on truck also, if it has been sitting.
You need to check for a spsrk at the plugs & you need to check if fuel is getting to the engine.
because when car is sitting still and at idle you do not have "air flow" coming into radiator to help cool it as you do when you are driving. So fan compensates for this higher engine - antifreeze temperature to try and cool it off it has to work harder.

Any used car bought better undergo an inspection by a trained mechanic. There are a slew of parts and systems that can go wrong simply if the car has been sitting for three years. Was it sitting in the sun or inside a shaded area? what is the condition of all the rubber parts, hoses, boots, belts, ignition cables, brake system and tires? Oil and water must be checked also. Oil can deteriorate and water can rust the water pump while car is sitting. Need to look for rust signs. A trained mechanic can check your engine and and give you a better answer regarding engine and transmission.
Year, Make, Model, engine size please. possibly an ignition or sensor (electronic part).
