To open the hood latch on a 1996 Buick Park Avenue, the car needs to be put up on a hoist or jacked up. Then a long pole is needed to trip the hood latch. The cable can then be repaired for the hood latch before it is closed again.
Use a set of pliers to pull the cable even if the plastic latch is broken...
Remove the grill, cut the cable and pull it with a pair of pliers or vice grips. It might even be possible to push the release on the latch manually, after the grill is removed.
The best way to to try to find the cable and cut it and pull with pliers to open if the inside latch is broken. If not then you would have to go in from underneath or through the grill.
The latch is broken, not the cable. You can still get to the cable where it is attached to the latch in the foot-well of the car. Grab the cable with a small vice-grip (or similar) and pull. Note that it is very unlikely the cable will break -the latch typically breaks before the cable since the latch is made from plastic and the cable from steel wire.
It depends on what is wrong with the cable. When you pull the hood release within the car, is the latch not popping? If you can get the hood up at all, then you should look at the actual latch system where the cable runs, there is a metal clip that holds the cable to the latch. Have another person pull the interior latch release and watch the cable.
This can be rather tuff........you must grab the hood release cable from the underside of the vehicle. Sometimes, you can trip open the hood latch with a long screwdriver, if you know where to do it.
If you mean the cable that goes to your latch and its snapped or something easiest way to do it is basicly grab a hold of the cable and pull on it and of latch would.
New HeadlineI had the same problem on my 1994 Buick Century. It was the result of inadequate battery maintenance. My battery leaked and destroyed the sheathing on the hood release cable (which ran along side the battery tray). This damage added slack in the cable causing it to no longer relase the hood latch. I was able to disconnect the cable from release lever inside the passenger compartment and pull on the cable end with a vice grip enough so that the latch disengaged. This technique may help you before you have to resort to paying someone for help. Good luck. Hey Meyou==TAke it to the body shop. They have to do it a lot when the cars are wrecked. There is about no way to prevent this. GoodluckJoe
To repair a hood latch cable on a 2003 Hyundai Elantra, you have to take it to your local mechanic or dealership. The hood latch cable should only be reconnected with an experienced hand. While you can use wrenches and screwdrivers, the latch cable may come loose again.
open hood go to the center latch dislodge the plastic cable retainer remove cable loop from the latch remove the two bolts from cable retainer left of the steering cable will drop thread it through the firewall from outside in reverse procedure.
If it is just the inside handle broken off you can pull the cable with a pair of pliers. If it is in the middle, you should be able to reach up from underneath and cut the cable and then pull the inside cable. If the latch end has pulled off, you may be able to trip the latch from underneath, or take the grill out and unbolt the latch.
