Remove the driveshaft from the back of the transmission. Remove the transmission mount bolts. Remove the bolts that hold the transmission to the back of the engine. Pull the transmission backwards to remove it.
i just bought a 1997 xj6 and you just have to hard wire it like i did
There is a Utube answer to this on the eBay item 150516946047 and if that has expired look up the seller kevinuk1 and check what he has for auction and you will find it in the description
you have to remove the wood looking console which is around the radio and all the way down to the shifter.
once you pull it out you are going to need a socked size 10mm
it has 2 nuts located on the bottom of the radio loose them up almost all the way and it should slide out.
eazy and simple 5-7 mins probably less
I just did this on my 1990. Each of the four doors had a 3.5" Phillips. The two under the back seat were 4". You need to remove the door panels to get to the speakers. Good instructions in the book by Hayes (I recommend this because there are several tricks to get to the hidden screws). Once door is completely disassembled you can access the speaker to remove and it is easy to simply cut away the foam and put a 4"coax in the same space. From the car there is no noticeable difference as you don't have to change the grills at all. Under the rear seat you can replace with 5.25" coax but it requires drilling new screw holes and using after market grills (I purchased JVC and they look similar to the factory.
New stereo, no external amp and the sound is 100% better than before.
Hope this helps.
