Cut the nipple with a hacksaw blade from the inside in 4 cuts, top bottom and both sides BE careful not to cut into the threads of the female end so you can reuse this piece. Break out the nipple with a pair of pliers.
If the brass threaded nipple is a male end and the PVC side is a female end, wrapping thread tape around the nipple and then screwing it into the female PVC end will provide a secure and watertight connection.
Lead wipe a brass nipple into the lead pipe and then use a female adapter x PVC on the brass threads

The nipple should unscrew from the manifold. If you don't see a way to put a wrench, socket, or pipe wrench on it to unscrew it, you'll need to take it to a mechanic that can see a way to unscrew it. Sometimes you may need to use a screw extractor, heat, or even a drill press to remove the broken piece.
You will probably have to cut it out with a hacksaw and install a new valve.
Normally the nipple is not removed with a lumpectomy. Contact your surgeon for information specific to your situation.
