The rear shaft is removed by lifting the rear of the truck off the ground and safely supporting it on jack stands. Remove the four retaining bolts ( 7/16" wrench )from the yoke on the front of rear differential. You may have to put truck in neutral to allow the drive shaft to be turned to gain access to all the bolts. You may have to pry the u-joint out of the yoke, being careful not damage anything, or knock the bearing caps off. Some can really put up a fight coming out of the yoke. Place a catch pan under transmission tail, and slide the drive shaft out of the transmission. You may get a small amount of leakage from the tail, but should not be bad ounce or two. If you have a front shaft ( 4x4 ), lift the front end up four bolts on each end, 7/16" wrench, 5/8" wrench on transfer case. There is no oil lost removing the front shaft.
Pull the radiator shroud, remove the serpentine belt, remove the fan from the water pump shaft, then remove the water pump.
