First you must remove the four bolts on the front side of the pulley. (You possibly have gotten this far already).
On the back side of the fan is a large nut tight up against the pulley. It is often frozen on there, either requiring a special GM tool, or some other means to hold the pulley.
I used a bar of steel (actually a metal ruler) and drilled a hole (about 1/4") in it near the edge, using it as a lever by holding it on with a pulley bolt.
Once the nut is broken loose, it's pretty easy.
The fan clutch on a 1997 S10 has a bolt on the center of the front. Remove the bolt while holding the clutch still. There is a special tool to grab the clutch fan from the rear to hold it while removing the bolt.
Answer turn the nut in reverse of the clockwise rotation, also known as counterclockwise (CCW).
Hey guys, I trying to take off a fan clutch on my 2003 chev blazer and want to know if I have to remove the radiator to do it.
how to take off the clutch fan in 96 blazer, trying to change water pump?
were is the heater relay on1996 jimmy?
Remove the fan itself then remove the clutch from the fan
Usually there are 4 nuts holding the clutch and fan on to the water pump shaft. Just pull the nuts, remove the fan clutch and replace it.
It is attached to the fan.
I think this one is easy...but not sure I wish someone woould tell if you need special tool or not
you have to have fan clutch wrenches
First remove the accessory drive belt- then loosen the large nut that attaches the fan clutch assembly to the water pump pulley being careful to loosen the nut clock wise not counter clockwise (It is a left handed thread)-now you can remove the fan to clutch bolts so you can separate the clutch assembly from the fan.
Remove the fan belt, by loosening the tensioner pulley. Remove the fan clutch with the retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new fan clutch.
