The neutral safety switch is located on the steering column where it passes through the firewall on the inside. There are four wires coming out of it. To access it you must remove the small lower dash panels under the steering column, remove nuts holding steering column up to dash, remove four bolts that hold the bracket to column, remove ignition switch mounted on top of column, unplug large plug to lower right of ignition switch on steering column, pull switch out of way while paying attention to ignition switch rod coming from actual key switch and how it goes together. Not sure how to actually remove switch, but I don't think it is too hard. It is a relatively inexpensive part, hardest part is reaching it without tearing more apart. Shouldn't be to big of a problem all in all.
I replaced the ignition cylinder (switch) on my '87 which is basically the same truck. It was pretty simple once I used a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel . I don't remember exactly how it was done but I followed the instructions in the haynes manual to remove the steering wheel column cover. There were a few lock rings and bolts to remove but it was pretty straightforward. Sorry I can't give any more detailed instructions.
Reach under the dash and you will feel a button that you push in on the switch itself. Then you can just pull it out from behind.
Because when you turn the igniton switch to run it heats up the coil which then in turn goes to the distributer and from the distributer to the spark plugs.
call a locksmith it is well worth the 75-150$ they charge. they are tooled for it and do it all the time. if you watch them do the job you will understand. I just had 3 cars rekeyed and it took about an hour this would have taken me 4hours and 2 new tools. The question is How to remove ignition switch,, not Who to call about an ignition switch. I mean come on,, Remove the steering wheel, press the plate, pull the lock ring out, remove 3 Phillips head screws to your turn signal switch. There is one more tiny Phillips screw, this is for the turn signal arm. Just pull the switch up just a little bit to get it off the steering shaft, there is a torques head screw, remove that and the cylinder is out, reverse all the directions to install.
