I am in a bind, I need to remove lower timing belt cover of 2005 Honda Pilot, there is a bolt (10mm) at the end of timing cover (1 o'clock) right under front camshaft pulley, there is only one serpentine belt for for the engine, the serpentine belt is removed, by pushing the belt adjuster, now that belt adjuster is right in front of the 10 mm bolt that holds lower timing belt cover, do I need to remove that in order to remove cover and bolt? I have tried but its not coming off?
Remove 1 Auxiliary Drive Belts. 2 LH top engine mounting. 3 Crankshaft Pulley 4 Cylinder head cover 5 Timing belt upper cover 6 Timing belt lower cover
first remove the fan and shrould. then the radiater and hoses. next remove the thermostat housing. remove the harmonic balancer(27mm or 1 1/16 shallow socket).remove all timing cover bolts(upper and lower). remove driver's side timing cover and move passenger side cover up just a bit to allow lower cover to be removed. a little tricky on the lower drivers side. may have to remove coolant temp sender and coolant temp sensor on the other pipe. no need to remove timing belt
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Turn the crankshaft until the No. 1 cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke with the timing marks aligned. Remove the idler pulley and bracket assembly. Remove the drive and accessory belts. Remove the radiator and water pump Remove the crankshaft pulley and damper Remove the lower radiator hose. Remove the oil pan-to-timing cover bolts. Remove the front cover bolts and the front cover. Tap the cover lightly with a plastic mallet, if necessary, to break it loose.
There are two parts to the speed sensor, one is located at the bottom of the timing chain cover, this is the sensor that has the electrical harness plug into it and is on the outside of the timing chain cover. The other part is more complicated and this is the sensor located inside the timing chain cover and is like a magnet and its plugged in a hole on the lower timing chain gear. I replaced the magnet sensor on a 1988 buick riviera, the one that is located inside the timing belt cover, it is a pain to get to it, once you remove the timing belt cover you have to remove the timing chain and the timing chain sprockets,, the sensor is located behing the timing chain lower gear so you have to remove the gear and the sensor plugs into a hole on the gear itself. The way it works is like this,,,the magnet that is located on the lower gear inside the timing chain cover turns and when it turns it passes trough the sensor located on the outside of the timing gear when they meet it creates a electrical pulse read by the computer and it tells it the speed of the engine.
Remove the lower timing belt cover and then the sensor should be to the right of the crankshaft pully.
remove timing cover
open the hood left facing side has black cover remove upper and lower covers remove timing belt put back in time start car
The timing belt cover should be right behind the water pump .. So remove the water pump then remove the timing belt cover then remove the timing belt then do all them steps backwards
You will need to remove the fan and the water pump. You may have to remove the radiator to be able to have room to remove the balancer. Remove the bolt in the center of the crankshaft. Using a puller , pull off the balancer. Remove the bolts surrounding the timing. Pry the timing cover from the block. I do not know your reason for doing this but if you are wanting to remove the seal you DO NOT have to remove the timing cover.
you have to remove the valve cover , the oil pan and the front timing cover. Then line up all the timing marks and remove the tensioners and guides then remove the cam gears and the chain
next to the timing chain you will find it in the cover on front of engine where the water pump is mounted they call it the timing chain cover you will have to remove this cover to get at it
Remove the exhaust manifold. This lets you pull it out. Also, you have to remove the timing cover. The pump is driven by the timing chain. You have to remove the timing cover and timing chain tensioner to get the pump sprocket out of the chain.
