Open the trunck and inside their is bolts just unbolt them and it should pop right off

1997 escort tranny's are a breed of their own you must replace it with a 1997 transmission.
Remove the neg battery cable, then the belt.Then the wiring and mounting bolts,

Open the trunk and remove the nuts holding the assembly in place. With nuts removed the tail light assembly will come out the back then you can remove the light socket to replace the bulb.
1. Disconnect the low pressure switch. 2. Take the freon lines loose. 3. Unbolt and remove it from the firewall.
Raise the headlights. Remove the bezel from around the head lamp by removing the three screws and carefully slide the bezel out, this will give you barely enough room to get your arm in there to remove the turn signal lamp.
I would go to your public library and get a copy of the Ford factory workshop manual for '97 Escort. They will give detailed instructions with diagrams how to do this. I have a '95 Escort and my factory manual shows how to disassemble the console and remove the section where the cig. lighter is mounted and how to remove it. Be patient, don't do this job when you are tired or cranky ;-)

Remove the plastic shielding from around the steering column, unplug the multifunction switch, remove the bolts used to mount the multifunction switch. Installation is the opposite of reverse

You have to remove the hole corner lamp so you can get to the bulb in the back, you just need a srew driver
