Take the door interior panel off (Google for a how-to, it's about a ten minute job) and you should quickly see where the grille is glued/fused to the trim ring.
You actually have to remove the inside tweeter (speaker) that's on the inside. There's a torx bolt you have to remove from the back.

I have a VW Golf 2003 made in Brazil, to remove the door upholstery you need to pry out very carefully the cover on the door pull handle. There is a seam where you can insert a thin bladed screwdriver and pry this out gently. There are two snaps along the middle, be careful not to break them. With that part out you can remove the screws holding the door handle. With that removed unscrew two screws at the bottom of the door. These may be the kind that require Torx wrenches (they are in mine) Remove small Phillips head screw that is on the inside of the door, holding the upholstery, about level with the rear view mirror on the door jamb. Then insert a thin bladed screwdriver along the edge of the door upholstery and pry out very gently the snaps that hold the rest of the side panel. This should get you where you need to go.Be careful with the wiring.

When you are in the car, there is a plastic cover in the front corner of the window. Take it off. Depending of the year of your Golf, there will be 3 or 4 bolts. Take them off. Then watch out not to break the little arm (or wire) that goes from the mirror to the door (to adjust the mirror from inside the car). Remove the mirror and then fix the new one.
Once you remove the door panel, You open the 2 round black plugs, lower the window until the window regulator clip bolts come into view. Loosen the bolts, lift the window all the way yo the top of the track and secure into place. Disconnect all electrical connectors that are on the outside. Remove the cap on the rear of the door just to the back of the outer door handle, there is a bolt there, only loosen until the lock cover comes loose from the back of the door handle. Remove the cover. you will see a black plastic tab on the outer door pull with a cable attached, lift it off the door pull. remove the bolts to the door latch. Remove all the bolts to the carrier and gently pry the carrier loose. Reach behind the carrier and with your fingers unclip the harness clips. Then disconnect the connector from the door latch. Lift up the whole carrier assembly to get the bottom of the window regulator to clear and lower to remove. BE CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THE DOOR LATCH there is a small opaque tab at the top of the door latch that breaks very easily and costs 150.00 to replace.

To remove the inside door panel on the 2006 Citi Golf, gently insert a flat screwdriver between the door and the panel and gently lift up. If there are no visible screws holding the door panel on, it is held on by a series of clips about 4 to 6 inches apart.
