The alternator is located on the passenger side of the motor. You can remove 2 of the bolts from the topside of the engine, but the third one is located at the bottom of it. In order to get to it, you have to remove the passenger side front tire and the wheel well covering. Hard job, it's a very tight squeeze doing both because of the limited space to work in.

first disconnect the battery - use a long breaker bar and socket to take tension off the tension pulley and at the same time remove the belt from the alternator pulley. disconnect the wires to the alternator make note of their positions. Then remove the 3 mounting bolts from the alternator.
If you crimp the three wires running to the inertia switch together and remove the switch, it will close the circuit thus bypassing the swich. I have a 1993 Ford Probe SE that this has been done to and as of yet it has no direct or indirect complications from doing this.
