On a 1994 VW Golf, the alarm can be turned off by disconnecting the smaller of two connectors coming from the Comfort Control Module. The Comfort Control Module is located behind the dashboard, to the left of the steering column.

close the bonnet and then lock the doors
1. Disconnect battery. 2. Remove the wires attached. 3. Remove the alternator (two bolts the top one is a 13mm and the bottom one is a 6mmhex). 4. put in new alternator in the opposite order. This is a simple procedure takes only about an hour at most.
