You can't remove just the inside handle. The handle is part of the door panel.
Remove the door trim panel. Remove the inside door handle rod. Remove the inside door handle retaining rivets. Remove the inside door handle from the door by sliding the handle rearward.
take inside door panel off and unbolt outside door handle from the inside.
Remove the inside door panel of your 1987 Chevy. Remove the linkage from the door handle. Remove the door handle retaining bolts. The door handle will come off.

You can replace the inside drivers door handle by removing the door panel. With the door panel removed the door handle mechanism will be visible. Remove the linkage from the door handle. Remove the door handle retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new door handle.
You will need to remove the inside door panel, by prying outward on the door panel retaining clips. When the door panel is removed the door handle assembly will be visible. Remove the door handle retaining bolts.

You have to remove the door panel...not easy, but do-able. Once that is off you can remove the door handle and replace it.
