Removing the intake manifold requires time, patience and mechanical inclination. You will need the six manifold gaskets (purchased from Mazda), a Crosspoint screwdriver, 10mm socket (1/4 drive), 10mm open/box end wrench, and a 5/16 socket (3/8 or 1/4 drive). 1) Disconnect the battery. 2) Remove the plastic engine cover 3) Disconnect the harness for the Mass Airflow Sensor. 4) From the throttle body end, loosen the clamp on the flexible hose for the air box (screwdriver or 10mm socket). 5) Remove the small hose from the air box hose. (Be very careful). 6) Remove the small hose from the throttle body (this hose has a clamp). 7) Remove the three hoses at the rear of the intake manifold (two have clamps and the other can be carefully pulled off). 8) Remove the three bolts for the bracket of the sensor mounted onto the side of the manifold, just behind the throttlebody (the sensor actually inserted about 3 inches inside the manifold so just remove the bolts). 9) Remove the eight bolts holding the manifold in place (the bolts cannot be pulled completely out). 10) Be sure to detach the two wire harnessess at the front of the manifold; they are attached via those plastic push pins. 11) Carefully lift the manifold starting from the left side (as you are facing the vehicle). Be careful of the sensor that is inserted on the right side of the manifold. You will have to push it slightly backwards while lifting upwards on the manifold. 12) Once the manifold is cleared you will notice that there are two hoses connected at the bottom of the throttle body. I recommend not removing them unless you really have to. 13) Cover the intake ports of the engine with rolled up paper or something else (to prevent something from dropping into the ports of the engine). IMPORTANT!!! When you reassemble be sure to properly connect everything or you car may fail to start. Press down firmly on all spark plug boots to ensure connectivity. After connecting the battery, turn the ignition key to the accessory position for about 2 seconds. Do this three times before finally starting the vehicle. You should hear a motorized sound; that would be the throttle body motor operating. Happy motoring.

Underneath the intake manifold. If you remove the front right wheel, you'll see it up behind the fender. For owners with thinner arms, you could remove the oil filter from the engine bay, reaching under the intake manifold.
