Get a shop manual. remove primary cover and primary chain. Remove rotor. Unplug stator from voltage regulator. Remove stator. Reverse process to install. You will need a manual and an impact wrench... at very least.
Yes you do. You have to take the distributor shaft out of the distributor to Remove the pick-up coil / stator.
Disconnect negative battery terminal, drain chaincase, remove outer chaincase cover, remove chain tensioner top center nut, remove compensator nut (right hand threads), loosen clutch adjuster locknut, back out clutch adjuster several turns, remove clutch release plate retaining clip, remove clutch release plate, remove clutch nut (left hand threads), remove clutch, compensator, chain tensioner & chain as a unit, remove alternator rotor, unplug stator, remove screws holding stator to motor case, remove stator. For installation reverse above procedure.

remove the distributer, remove the roll pin holding the drive gear onto the distributer shaft, remove the distributer drive gear, remove the shaft from the distributer to gain access to and remove the stator(pick-up coil). Replace the stator, and reassemble everything.
You have to break the motor down to the armature (bit runs through middle) and stator the coil. cut all the copper from one end of stator. stand the stator on its pre-cutt end place wood in to the center of the stator and set fire to the wood ensuring all the varnish/resin is burnt away on the stator . then with tongs or pliers remove the looped ends of copper by with drawing the strands from their respective groves
To do this, you must have the manual.
It is located inside the inner primary at the front of the motor below where the voltage regulator is mounted. The voltage regulator will have a wiring harness that plugs into the stator plug on the outside of the inner primary (the stator is located under the plug). You must remove the outer primary and the clutch basket to access the stator.
Remove the cables from the 1995 Harley-Davidson Road Tank motorcycle starter. Remove the retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter. The starter turns the engine over so it can start.
An electric motor has a stator and a rotor. The stator does not move. The rotor rotates inside the stator.
The Alternator which is also called a Stator is located inside the primary case. You will have to remove the primary coverand the primary chain. The Stator is bolted to the engine at the crankshaft.
