Seldom is a heater core repairable. Replace the heater core with a new one.
If you're that determined to not buy a new one, you send it off to get rebuilt. Results may be varied, and the cost won't save you much - if anything - over just replacing it.
From the screw tabs across is just under 6.5". I bought 5.25" and the fit (1992 plymouth acclaim) except the screw tabs are too short
