How do you repair a Ford Expedition door jam switch?

Dome lights staying on 1997 ExpeditionI replaced the door jam switch on my 1997 Expedition for the dome lights staying on. Once you isolate the correct door causing the problem, remove the inside door panel. I continued removing the entire door lock assembly which exposed the small door jam switch. There is a small plastic tab that holds the switch in the lock assembly. Once the switch was replaced, you need to put the entire lock assembly back into the door. This project took some time but once I was finished, I was happy knowing the actual door jam switch was not that expensive and with a little patience, I saved a lot of money on labor. I also completed this same project on a 1998 Ford 150 pickup and I had to follow the same steps to repair the same type of problem (dome lights staying on.)

To check which door is bad, turn on the ignition switch, roll down your windows so you can hear the door sounder and open and close each door. You will hear the sounder when the door switch is good. The door, or doors that you do not hear the sounder is the problem door. Your rear window also needs to be test the same way.

Another suggestion:

I found my problem door and used WD-40 to lubricate the locking mechanism in the door and magically the switch began to work again. It was truly a one minute repair! All you do is spray generously on the locking mechanism on the door, open and close the door a few times or until the light goes off and on. What would we do without Duct Tape and WD-40?
