i would first check your IAC valve (Idel Air Control valve ) this would also accomodate to flucuation of rpms, it could also be that your thermostat is stuck open so that the car is constantly staying cold but by the gauge its warm so the car is calling for more fuel to warm up the engine. Have you or can you see a coolant leak???
