Best thing to do when the radio is bad, is forget repairing it. Not cost effective. Check salvage yards if you want a factory radio, or just purchase an after market radio, and intall it.

If you are referring to the factory supplied radio, it is not a 'component' type radio. It must be removed from the dash and dis-assembled.

You will still see the messages on the dashboard message screen but you will not be able to fix them with the radio anymore. the factory radio is not vital but it is helpful to refresh some message board codes. most of the messages can still be fixed without the factory radio.
