2.2L engine

Caution Relieve the fuel system pressure before servicing fuel system components in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury.

After relieving the system pressure, a small amount of fuel may be released when servicing the fuel lines or connections. In order to reduce the chance of personal injury, cover the regulator and the fuel line fittings with a shop towel before disconnecting. This will catch any fuel that may leak out. Place the towel in an approved container when the disconnection is complete.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Caution Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator mounting screw.

Disconnect the air cleaner outlet resonator clamp at the throttle body.

Remove the air cleaner outlet duct from air cleaner outlet resonator and air cleaner assembly.

Disconnect the crankcase vent hose clamp and the crankcase vent hose from the top of the engine.

Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator.

Remove the fuel rail bracket.

Remove the fuel injector electrical connectors by pushing in the wire connector clip and pulling the electrical connector away from the fuel injector.

Remove the fuel feed inlet pipe quick connect.

Remove the fuel return pipe from the fuel pressure regulator.

Remove the fuel rail attaching bolts.

Remove the fuel rail assembly from the cylinder head.

Remove the fuel injector retaining clip.

Remove the fuel injector.

Important Visually inspect the fuel injector to see if the upper O-ring was also removed, if not, remove the O-ring from the fuel rail assembly.

Remove the fuel pipe retainer clip nut (if so equipped).

Remove the fuel pipe retainer clip bolt.

Remove the fuel rail attaching bolts.

Lift the fuel rail assembly from the cylinder head.

Loosen the fuel return pipe retaining bracket attaching screw. (Rotate the retaining bracket to allow fuel pipe to be removed.)
