In the 1966 - you have to drop the whole rear bumper. The major bolts are through the body and inside the trunk. My manual says - use 2 jack stands to keep it elevated and not put tension on the wiring - and have the help of a friend. Make sure you change them all when you do it. I would suggest used LED replacement lights and thoroughly clean and protect (socket lube) the connectors so you never have to do it again. If the back dash light will light when the brakes are applied but the two tail lights will not light up, there is probably a short in the wiring somewhere. It could also be that the fuse for the brake lights is burned out.
