Remove the timing belt cover. There should be a pully that will ratched in and out to tighten and loosen the belt.

I have a 1992 ford escort lx hatchback with the 1.9 in it, and they are non interference engines, meaning if the timing belt goes it will not hurt the engine, it just won't run, hope it helps! I have a 1992 Ford Escort LX I need to know the engine size please. If it 1.8 or 1.9

User Avatar

It is inside the engine, driven by the timing belt.

User Avatar

According to Gates ( they make timing belts etc. ) the 1.8 L and 1.9 L engines in a 1992 Ford Escort are NOT interference engines , so apparently no

User Avatar

Replace the belt every 60,000 miles. Warning: This is an interference engine.

User Avatar

Pobably not...most of the time when the timing belt breaks the whole engine just stops. The belt moves the cam and if the cam isn't moving the valves aren't either. Besides replacing the timing belt is expensive enough, don't need to add a valve job on top of that.

User Avatar

be more specific.. replace pads..?? replace hose..?? repair master cylinder..??

User Avatar

The cam on this engine is driven by a CHAIN and not a belt. Therefore, It has no timing belt.

User Avatar

No you don't have to drop the transmission in order to replace the slave cylinder, but be careful because it can easily be stripped.

User Avatar

If you need to replace the slave cylinder it is located in the bell housing and the trans has to be removed. The clutch master cylinder is located on the firewall on the drivers side

User Avatar

from a 1992 what please? in regards to your serpentine, the engine should, if your lucky have a diagram of how it goes.
