Remove the freon from the ac system and release the pressure on the 2001 Dodge. Loosen the fittings on the dryer and remove it. Install a new drier, and new o rings. Pull a vacuum on the system then fill with new freon.
It is usually recommended but not an absolute necessity.

low pressure recharge port is on reciver/dryer under brackets by battery. easier to get to if you remove part of the bracket, but it can be done without that if you have small agile hande. the high pressure port is by battery close to front of truck
