Assuming you are asking about a 4.0L engine... Remove the distributor cap. Remove the rotor. Unplug the camshaft positioning sensor from the harness. Lift carefully where the cable feeds through the distributor to the CMP and remove. Put replacement CMP in the same place and connect it to the harness. Replace the rotor and distributor cap. On my 94, I6, it was lower right, from the front of the vehicle. There is a wire from the distributor to the sensor. Follow that.

In order to replace the camshaft position sensor, you would need to disconnect the electrical plug holding it in. Using a socket, hold down the bolt and remove the camshaft position sensor.

The camshaft position sensor is inside the distributor. The crankshaft position sensor is in the top of the bell housing on the driver side.

The camshaft position sensor is located near the thermostat housing. You should replace the crankshaft position sensor as well. This one is much harder to locate....it is on the backside of the engine that is between the firewall and the engine block. Both use the same sensor.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the camshaft position sensor on these engines is built into the distributor. You'd have to replace the whole thing.
