I have a 1999 gmc 1500 sierra,need to replace door pins and bushings.door sagging.
My advice based on experience is to replace the entire hinge assembly.
Try replacing the hinge pin bushings. Common problem on these trucks.
I've worked for GM for over 10 years. Look at your door hinge pins and bushings first, they are probably wore out. To tell if the pins and bushings are worn out, open the door and lift up on it from the end opposite the hinges. If the door has any play at all the pins/bushings are worn. If you let them go too long the holes in the hinge wear the bushings sit can get wallered out.
You put it where it belongs
In most cases you can restore the hinges with replacing the pins and bushings. Pin and bushing kits areavailable from your local auto parts store. If you need to replace the complete hinge it would require an extensive amount of work. The original hinges are welded in place to the door and the body pillar.
The repair is to replace the entire hinge assembly.
Buy a new or find a used door hinge . Forget about replacing the pin
There are two different sizes of bushings for each hinge. On the Top door hinge the bushing go on the body side. The smaller of the two goes on the top hinge with the shoulder of the bushing on the top side of the hinge. The Larger bushing goes on the bottom of the hinge with the shoulder of the bushing on the bottom of the hinge. On the lower hinge the bushing go on the door side of the the hinge. The larger of the bushings go on the upper side of the hinge and the smaller bushing goes on the lower side of the hinge. When you put the pins in, the pin will go from bottom to top on the upper hinge and from top to bottom on the lower hinge. The pins will need to be tapped into place with a hammer. Be careful to not break the shoulder of the bushing. There is a tool that makes reinstalling the door spring a snap. It will probably cost $40, but it will save your knuckles and a lot of time. There are a couple of companies that make repair kits for these. On is from Dorman and the other is from HELP! The kits come with a small bushing, a large bushing, a pin, and a pin retainer. The retainers will look different depending on the company. Some look just like a thin washer and other look like an E-clip. If you go to an automotive parts house and ask for bushing and pin kits for you specific outfit they should know what you are talking about.
I have 2000 expedition and thought i could change then. After taking my wheel off i notice they could not be change. You need to replace the upper control arm.
The oxygen sensor on the 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra is located on the lower exhaust. If you need to replace it, they are available for about $20 online.
you have to hammer out the three rivets that hold it to the control arm. but do yorself a favor and replace th whole control arm because the bushings on the arm are well known for falling out.
Sierra Sciences was created in 1999.
