To replace the lamps in the instrument panel you have to take it out of the dash.

First take off the trim panel in front of the radio:

1. Remove the ashtray, then remove the slide it goes into by removing the four screws that hold the slide in place. You may have to also remove the panel that runs across the bottom of the dash.

2. Reach up and unplug the wire harness into the cigar lighter then remove the nut that holds the cigar lighter socket to the dash. Pull the socket out of the dash.

3. On the back side of the headlight knob is a small slot. Use a small screw driver to depress the latch in that slot and the knob will come off of the shaft.

4. Carefully unscrew the nut around the shaft and remove the nut.

5. There are three screws on the bottom of the trim piece around the cluster, remove them.

6. You should now be able to carefully pull the trim panel away from the dash.

7. If your car has a rear window defogger reach around the trim panel and unplug the wire harness to the switch.

8. The trim panel should now be free to work out of place.

If your car has column shift you will need to unhook the string that operates the shift indicator:

1. remove the trim panel below the steering column.

2. There is a clip that holds the string to the shift bowl, take note of how/where it is and un clip it.

Next remove the trim panel around the instrument cluster. It is held on with screws at either end and clips into the top of the dash. Remove the screws and gently pull the trim panel off.

Now the instrument cluster is held in with eight screws around the perimeter, remove them. It is plugged in at two place, they just pull out. At this point you should be able to remove the cluster to change the bulbs.

Suggestion: It is a real nuisance to get the instrument cluster out. Replace all of the bulbs at once, you don't want to do this any more than you have to.!

Reverse the process to put the instrument cluster and all those trim panels back in place.
