I just replaced mine on a 2001 Rav 4 with 61,300 miles; it was showing wear -cracks etc.
2001 rav 4 has a chain timing belt so it does not need to to be replace. To replace the serpentine belt, all you need is one socket rench. There are six moving parts. between the top belt there is one screw nut, put the socket rench in and pull it clockwise. (you must turn clockwise as hard as you can till the belt moves and slide it off. if you look at the smaller wheel, the nut is there @ 1 o'clock just underneath the top belt. It will take about ten minutes. I just did it on my 2001 rav 4. Good luck, hope this help. Always good to spend less during this bad economy. Have F.A.I.T.H you CAN DO IT. hsssssss don't tell you know who.....
There should be a diagram under the hood somewhere. Normally on the fan shroud. Click the link for a diagram. If you do not see one search with the term "2001 Toyota Rav 4 belt diagram" and you will find a diagram.
To change fan belt on a Rav 4, remove the bolt in front of the engine. Loosen the pulley and gently pull away the fan belt. Replace with new.?æ
YOU DONT. ITS A CHAIN.
Regardless of what type of vehicle you have, it is extremely difficult to replace a serpentine belt w/o a serpentine un-tension-er tool. This is a thin, long handle with a socket on the end that sticks out at 90 degrees of the handle. The socket slips onto the bolt-head of the tension-er pulley. Once the serpentine belt is threaded around all the other pulleys you put the un-tension-er tool on the tension-er pulley bolt and pull (or push) to achieve slack in the serpentine belt and slip it on the tension-er pulley.
on a rav 4 diesal you should change the timing belt every 65000miles
Some major maintenance items are necessary on a 1998 Rav 4 with 100,000 miles. These include an oil change, transmission fluid, serpentine belt, and differential oil.
Get a manual on your car from the parts store or AUTOBOOKSONLINE.COM. It has pictures and everything
how to change belltoyota rav 4 2001
According to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera ) For the 2.0 litre four cylinder engine in a 1997 Toyota RAV 4 ( 60,000 miles )
Interval is - 100000 kms On the 1996-97 replace it every 60,000 miles. On the 1998-2000 replace it every 90,000 miles. Also replace the water pump which is driven by the cam belt. This is NOT an interference engine.
