that depends on what the truck is doing. on my 98, the transmission would not shift out of 1st gear, the transmission shop changed the speed sensor out on the tail shaft of the transmission (automatic). this sensor can be found in the auto parts stores. it is simple to change. the other problem started first with the brake lite and the abs lite coming on, then the speedometer wouldn't register until the vehicle was doing 28 mph, then that got worse and didn't go active until around 45 mph. then the check engine lite cam on. this all happened over a long period of time. i found out that there was a 2nd speed sensor on the differential which has to be gotten from your Dodge dealer. it actually has two sensors in it, one sensor for each rear axle shaft, if one goes out the abs lite comes on, and the speedometer has problems, if both sensors quit, the check engine lite, abs, and worse speedometer readings happen. after i replaced this differential speed sensor, all of my dash warning lites went out, the speedometer read correctly, and my fuel mileage went up so apparently this sensor affects fuel mileage also.
on my 4x4 it is on top of the rear diff into the housing..
The left front speed sensor is electric and does not have a cable. The sensor is accessed by removing the brake rotor.
