depending on RHD / LHD
i assume your car is left hand drive,
thake the cap of the wheel ( small black cap ) behind it is another black cap with a square hole and the speedo cable sticking through,
take the clip off.
now go into the dash, if its a 73 standard you shound be able to get it from the trunk and just unscrew it.
if it's a super then take the panel with the headlight window defroster and emergency flasher switches of by taking the smaller pannels out on either side, and a screw in the middle,
you now have a hole to stick your hand in and unscrew the cable,
also you can push the speedo out if u like, it doesnt bolt on to anything, it just sits in the rubber grommet
how do replace an accellerator cable on a 1973 bug
there is a speedo cable that runs from the back of the speedometer to the drivers side front dust bearing cap it has a square hole in it that it sticks in
the fuel gauge is incorporated inside the speedo meter in the super bug.
I just replaced my cable, but before that I stressed on how to do it because of the thin sleeve it runs in. All you do is take out the old cable, the new cable has two metal points on it. The straight one you feed from inside the vehicle to the back, where the old cable came out.
No.
charging sys.,oil press.
The value of the 1973 Jim Beam VW Bug decanters is between $20 and $40 depending on the condition.
yes. the lights inside might not correspond to the lights in your bug but you can pretty much hook up any speedo and lights into another one. like there might be more lights in the newwer speedo than you need for your 71 but pretty much from 71 and on they were all the same. parts are interchangable
All you need to do is simply unscrew the cable from the speedometer. It should be on the right hand side on the back. The cable is routed from the trunk through the wheel well to the right front wheel. Take the hubcap off. Next, take the c-clip that is on the end of the speedo cable coming through the dust cap. Now you should be able to pull it from the back side of the brake backing plate. Guide it through the "bracket" and pull it into the trunk. There, it should be free!
It's in the speedometer.
As long as the 73 isn't a super beetle then yes they should fit.
cable driven,fromt drivers side wheel
