I have a 98' Cavalier and you must pry and pop a clip off of the rod sticking out of the passenger side seat where the hinge bracket is. Once the clip is removed (be careful it is only plastic)the back oof the seat can be slid about 1/2 an inch over towards the passenger side, causing the rod on the opposite side of the seat to be released from it's hinge bracket. Then simply lift the back part of the seat on the drivers side about 1 inch ( with the seat folded forward all the way)and jiggle very slightly as you pull outwards, towards the drivers side. That should do it. Hope it's helpful to you! Answer I have a 98' Cavalier and you must pry and pop a clip off of the rod sticking out of the passenger side seat where the hinge bracket is. Pull down the back seat then insert a screwdriver in the hole in the middle of the lock mechanism and turn it until the trunk opens. On the left side of the mechanism is a plastic box that probably broke, replace it.
It is important to know the cost of replacing parts on a car. For a 2002 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 it will cost between $200-$400 to replace the struts, is a person is doing it themselves.
